AFTON THATCH:
Afton Thatch is a large, detached thatched cottage located at the head of the River Yar, which extends from Yarmouth Harbour, one of England's most unspoilt seaside villages. In an area of outstanding natural beauty, the cottage has been restored to a very high standard. Tasteful and yet understated, this lovely cottage has been interior designed and features antiques, handmade curtains and upholstered furniture throughout.
With oak beams, fireplaces and an eat-in kitchen, the cottage has an authentic style and atmosphere that is rare among rental properties.
With river views on one side and open fields on the other, the house is in a tranquil location but within walking distance to the village of old Freshwater with its pub, The Red Lion. A large professionally landscaped garden offers an enclosed lawn, a summerhouse and a trampoline.
From the cottage one can walk to Afton and Tennyson Downs and Compton Bay, a beautiful National Trust beach, is a short drive or bicycle ride away. The cottage sleeps 6 to 11 and has three large bedrooms (sleeping 2 or more)and two bathrooms. A second downstairs sitting room with a sofabed and attached cloakroom can be used as a fourth bedroom to accommodate a group of up to 11.
Prices from £325 to £1575 per week. Short breaks and weekends are also available.
AFTON THATCH LODGE:
Afton Thatch Lodge (sleeps 2-6) is a detached thatched cottage located at the head of the River Yar, which extends from Yarmouth harbour, one of England’s most unspoilt seaside villages. With river views on one side and open views to the downs on the other, the Lodge is within a tranquil location in the grounds of Afton Thatch, a traditional thatched cottage built in 1697. In an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the Lodge has been restored to a high standard with antiques and shaker style matchboarding.
Within a two minute walk is the village of Old Freshwater with its pub, the Red Lion. Afton Thatch Lodge has its own garden reached through three French windows facing east with views of the Afton Down. From the Lodge, the footpaths to Afton and Tennyson Downs are nearby. Compton Bay, a beautiful National Trust beach, is a short drive or bicycle ride away. A bridleway leads from the Causeway along the estuary to Yarmouth.
The Lodge offers accommodation for a couple or family with small children. A large master bedroom on the first floor has an ensuite double-ended roll top bath. Two “over and under” occasional day beds on the ground floor can sleep up to four more. A simple kitchen with iroko counters, gas hbbs and a microwave/oven sits in the “L” formed by the sitting room and kitchen on the ground floor.
